Frequently Asked Questions

Q&A

Can I store an ice machine in a non-climate-controlled shed outside my camp?

There are a few things that will factor into this. We would recommend an air-cooled unit as long as the air temperatures in the shed DO NOT exceed 90F. Hotter air will slow ice production. Our team of professionals at Richard's can help you with efficient layout & machine placement.

What type of ice cube do you recommend for hunters/fisherman needing bulk ice?

If you need to keep your catch cold for long periods of time, then, we recommend the FULL CUBE. This cube melts slowly and is better for ice chests & bulk cooling. Need something different? Richard's offers ice machines that produce cube, half dice, nugget (SONIC ICE), flake and gourmet styles.

How do I gauge the amount of ice that I need?

Many sportsmen from Louisiana gauge their ice by either bag amount or 5-gallon bucket amount. A 300 lbs. machine will yield roughly (10) 5 gal buckets or (15) 20lbs. bags of ice. Run a Food Service Operation? Team with Richard's to properly estimate your Average daily needs!

Will there be any other accessories that is needed when purchasing an ice machine?

Depending on the type of machine, YES. Many units require filters, water lines, drain lines and more. Need further assistance? Let Richard's help guide you through the process.
